And Spare the Both of You

I recently let go of a friend of 3 years.

After not talking to her for 3 1/2 months, with the plan of just never contacting her again, I decided to not ghost her and leave her wondering why I decided to let her go and officially broke up with her by sending a long message that she didn’t respond to.

But after all was said and done, I felt so much lighter!

The thing that was particularly difficult about this friendship was that she wasn’t a bad person. At all. She was actually really sweet and really made an effort to be friends with me. I think she really enjoyed my company, but for some reason, I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t show up to the relationship like I show up to my other friendships.

There were a lot of times where I just couldn’t be bothered and I thought that it made me a bad person. But then I realized that it’s because we just weren’t compatible as people.

It was as simple as that.

And it wasn’t fair for me, or her, to continue to string her along as if we have a close friendship. So I decided to let her go.

I'm a young woman with a lot of shit to say, and sometimes, I don't know how to say it. I have a deep desire to understand myself and the world around me.
